“A noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast and upon them which worshipped his image.” [Rev. 16:2] The Seven Last Plagues Are Poured Out Upon Those Who Receive the Mark of the Beast and Who Worship His Image. Rev 18:1-4.                                                   1

The ocean turned to blood.  [Rev. 16:3]  The wicked accuse Sabbath-keepers of bringing the plagues (plural) upon the earth. The Wicked Cause a Death Decree to Be Issued Saying, “If Sabbath-keepers Are Destroyed, God Will Be Pleased and Stop the Plagues. The rivers and fountains of waters turned to blood. [Rev. 16:4-7] Because the Wicked Have Shed the Blood of Saints, They Are Given Blood to Drink. 5T 451;  GC628                                                                                                                               3

The sun scorches men with great heat. [Rev. 16:8, 9]  Because the Holy Spirit Has Been Withdrawn  From the Earth, The Wicked Do Not Repent.                                                                                                                             4

Darkness upon the seat [capitol] of the beast.  [Rev. 16:10, 11] Those who received the mark of the beast are still suffering from sores of the first plague. God Gives Literal Darkness to Those Who Loves Spiritual Darkness.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        5

[Symbolic] River Euphrates dried up. [ Rev. 17:15] Three unclean spirits  spirits of devils working miracles gather nations to Armageddon. [ Rev. 16:12-16]  The Wicked Slay Each Other With Weapons intended for Righteous.                                                                                                                       6

NINE FACTS ABOUT THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES

 

1.        The plagues fall After the close of probation. Dan. 12:1; EW 36

2.        Plagues 1 to 4 are NOT universal. Rev. 16:1-11 “These plagues are not universal.” GC 628

  1. Plagues 5 to 7 ARE universal. Rev. 16:14, 17-21. Darkness upon “kingdom” universal.
  2. The 6th plague “Gathering of the kings of the earth and of the WHOLE world” to the battle of Armageddon is universal. Verse 14.
  3. The 7th plague – “The cities of the nations” – “a great earthquake” – “every island” – is universal. Verses 17-21 GC 637.
  4. The plagues are SUCCESSIVE. “Trumpet after trumpet is to be sounded, vial after vial poured out one after another upon the inhabitants of the earth.”7BC 982.
  5. The plagues are CUMULATIVE. Rev 16:11. The “sores” of the first plague still continue when the 5th  plague falls.
  6. The plagues fall in a brief, indeterminate period of time. 7BC 857.
  7. The third plague [“blood to drink”] is given because of persecution and the death decree upon the saints. “They have shed the blood of saints.” Rev. 16:6; GC 629

 

SOME OF GOD’S PURPOSES FOR THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES

 
  1. The first five plagues, and especially the sixth [ the rainbow circling each praying company of God’s  people – GC 636] lead sinners to the realization that they have been fighting against God. GC 640; Rev. 16:9, 11, 12. This produces  “A TERRIBLE AWAKENING” among the wicked who then turn upon their false shepherds” with the swords which were to slay God’s people.”  GC 654, 656. This constitutes the drying up of the River Euphrates – the multitudes which support modern spiritual Babylon. Rev. 17:1, 5, 17; See the type – 2 Chron. 20.
  2. The plagues reveal to all the universe THE SPIRIT OF REBELLION which fully controls the wicked. Mt. 13:24-30;, 36-42.
  3. This spirit of rebellion reveals, THE JUSTICE OF GOD in terminating  human history and in destroying sinner. Rom. 14:11; Phil. 2:10; GC 638-640, 670; PP 260; Rev. 16:13, 14, 16.
  4. The trials attending the plagues further develop the characters of the righteous. It “does for them that  which nothing else could do.” OHC 321;  DA 671.
  5. The trials of God’s people demonstrate to all the world and to the on looking universe  that the remnant people, to a man, would rather die than to disobey God. 7BC 839.
  6. Through the wicked, the Devil is permitted to demonstrate what the universe would be like should he be allowed to control it. 7BC 839; GC 37.
